Music in TV shows and Movies

This past week I have been realizing how important music is in tv and movie shows. There are certain songs that are played that provide the exact emotion that is needed for each scene. I have been watching a TV show this past week and have been listening to the words of the songs in the background and I have never realized how many songs are related to the scene that is playing out. It made me realize how much time goes into choosing the music and how creative it is. Music is so important in movies and tv shows and if it wasn't included than those things wouldn't be the same.

  1. So true! It's amazing how much more emotion or involvement comes from the music...It makes the action seem more intense and the heartbreaking moments that much more well, heartbreaking:) I don't think it would be the same experience without it!

  2. I took a Music and the Humanities class at BYU-Idaho a few years back and my professor wanted to prove that music is vital to film/t.v. To illustrate this point, she played one of the most intense clips from the movie "Signs" but she put the sound on mute. Now I'm not the type who likes scary movies with aliens so I was hesitant to look at the screen, but it was almost comical to watch! When there is no intense music or dialog to be heard, it seems that you pay a lot more attention to what is physically happening and not so much the emotion in the scene. It was an interesting lesson and I'll never forget how important music is to help portray emotion!
