Tooth Tunes

I was watching Despicable Me today on Disney Channel and they had a commercial that I thought was interesting for kids. It was by the product Tooth Tunes which is a toothbrush that plays music when you are brushing your teeth. After learning about advertising in this class a while back, I was observing it more than I would have. It was interesting to watch. They were encouraging brushing your teeth more than they were of the actual product, which I thought was good. I can see how they use the technique of having the "pester power" of children to get their parents to buy the product. The children would see the commercial, see how cool the toothbrush was and then ask their parents to buy it for them. I thought it was a pretty good advertisement that encouraged brushing your teeth but also was promoting their product.

Blog Posts

This past week, I read a blog post that was kind of eye opening to me. I have been a pretty avid follower of blogs for a while now but after learning different things about media and thoughts people had, this post made me realize some things. This blog I read is a pretty popular one. She has a lot of followers. This post that she wrote, was kind of an angry post. There had been people on instagram and also comments on her blog that suspected she was pregnant, but she hadn't mentioned anything about that. She was upset and frustrated that people would just assume those things about her and I bet her feelings were hurt. It made me realize that we sometimes really need to keep our opinions to ourselves and not comment things that are jumping to conclusions or acting like we know someone more than we really do.

Dominos

A couple of days ago, my husband and I had Domino's pizza for dinner. I was observing their boxes and what they looked like and how they are advertised. I have seen their boxes before and I hadn't ever thought twice about them or what they looked like, but after taking this class, I realized that they were well done. The way they had the font and they layout is something that catches my eye. For some people, it might be too crazy but the way it's put together, it catches my eye and makes me want to read what they are saying, and that's what I did. Something else I noticed is they have different types of things on each of their boxes. The pizza boxes read differently than the wing's box did and then the box where they put there desserts they offer was different than the other two. I think they are creative with the layout and also what they put on their boxes and it catches my attention.

Media Thoughts

Since being in this class, I have been noticing and thinking about media a lot more than I used to. I notice things on TV and advertisements. One thing I have noticed is how much I use media. On one of the first days of class, we discussed how much media is in our lives and what media is and it amazed me that media is pretty much everything. I never realized how much my life revolves around it. I am constantly having my phone, or on my computer. I love having music or background noise on when I am home or doing a task, it's all media. One thing that I enjoy about this class is that I am learning the positive and negative things about media and I really like that there are positive things about it all because I feel like sometimes it can have a huge negative aspect.

Everything is Awesome

This past weekend, I went and saw the Lego Movie. I wasn't sure what to expect from it before we went and wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I thought it was a very creative movie and it turned out to be an okay movie. I like how they ended it and you can tell there was a lot of thought put into all the little details of being a Lego. At the first part of the movie, there is a song they play that has a catchy tune and words. I saw it with some of my family and for the rest of the weekend we were singing the song, which has like three lines to it. It's interesting how a song can get stuck in your head and that's all you are doing is singing the song over and over again. I have posted about this before but it's another realization on how important music is in a movie and how it can change the feeling and what things you remember about it.

TV shows

I don't know if this is just me who feels this, but when I watch a TV show and a lot of the episodes in continued order I feel like I get into the show way more than I should. Before the start of the semester, I started a show and when I first started watching it, I thought about it a lot and couldn't wait to watch the next episode. Now that I'm pretty far into the series I still watch it, but it's not as much. It's so interesting to me how TV shows, especially those ones on Netflix, can just get you hooked. Even though I love netflix and it's so convenient to have all the seasons and episodes sometimes there's a downside to it because every episode you want to watch more and more.

Happy

My friend and I have a thing where if we hear a really good song that we love and think the other will like it, we share it with each other. This past week, my friend sent me an email with a new song to listen to. I fell in love with it! It's called Happy and it's by Pherrell. It's such a happy song and just makes you want to get up and dance around! Perspectives

I read an article today about a mom who has six kids and the reasons why it was great to have six kids. I thought this article was so cool and I enjoyed reading about her opinion about having that amount of children. One thing about media that is so cool is it's open to everyone's perspective and opinions. Some of these things we can learn from and some of these things can be bad but I think it's really cool that there is just so many things out there that we can learn from. I enjoyed reading this article because this mom is talking about something that is different from the way of life these days. People don't have more than 3 kids. It was cool to see how she feels about having 6 kids and I really liked reading her article about the positive things about having 6 children. Music in TV shows and Movies

This past week I have been realizing how important music is in tv and movie shows. There are certain songs that are played that provide the exact emotion that is needed for each scene. I have been watching a TV show this past week and have been listening to the words of the songs in the background and I have never realized how many songs are related to the scene that is playing out. It made me realize how much time goes into choosing the music and how creative it is. Music is so important in movies and tv shows and if it wasn't included than those things wouldn't be the same.
